How do you see the Pirates lineup playing out by the end of the season? What is everybody's thoughts on first base and shortstop by the end of the season?

Clemente and Stargell wouldn't be traded, they would be salary dumps like Aramis Ramirez was!!

looks like we are going to lose sanchez, wilson and adam laroche will go after.the lineup.might as well bring up best players from the indians and curve because thats all we are going to have is a minor league team left.mccutchin and doumit better not get too good because they will get traded next.if clemente and stargell played today for the bucs they would get traded too with this management and management of the last 10 years

HALF OF THE YANKEE TEAM IS FROM THEIR FARM SYSTEM.THAT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A TEAM LACKING IN THAT AREA. EVERY YEAR THE YANKEES TRADE MINOR LEAGUE PROSPECTS FOR MAJOR LEAGUE QUALITY PLAYERS.THEY JOKE IN NEW YORK HOW WHEN TEAMS LIKE THE PIRATES DEVELOPE GOOD PLAYERS THEY WILL BECOME YANKEES SOON.

Starting lineups for todays game...Pittsburgh $18.6M versus Houston's $59.8M. I can see why Nutting drives a lexus. Probably has 55 of them in his garage. Should be a nailbiter of a game today!! Really trying to win!!!

Your lineup consists of Tabata who has proven nothing, Lastings who has proven he's a handful of trouble, Ford who you must be joking as the 2nd baseman of the future, no shortstop to speak of since you are trading him, and Andy LaRoche who has 4 bombs for a power position. Please quit buying what they are selling bro!

I would just like to make a couple comments about how this team is being built. We did not get into this situation in a day and we are not going to get out of it in a day. The Yankees sell prospects to get major league talent to make a playoff run but look at their system they want players from the Pirates but are having trouble finding major leagues prospects to give up (The Yankees are in trouble very soon). This year you have McCutcheon CF leading off, Sanchez 2b, Doumit C, Jones 1b, LaRoche 3b, Moss RF, Young LF, SS to be traded for in the future our lineup looks like this McCutcheon CF, Milledge LF, Tabata RF, Alverez 1b, Ford 2b, LaRoche 3b, we need a shortstop.

"all they need is a big power bat and a stud starter" might be the funniest thing I've ever read. Comical. I must be watching a different team than you.

everyone hopes that millegde turns out to be the next bill madlock. madlock was the final piece to the puzzle not the beginning like milledge. it took three years before the pirates won after the drabek trade. i don't even think most people are talking about winning a pennant, they just want the team to be competitive not keep loosing 90+ games a year.there is a reason that loosing for 17 years in a row is a sports not just a baseball but all team sports record.

bucsfans, you asked when I thought the Pirates would compete for a playoff spot. I think they'll tease us with flashes in 2010 and actually compete in 2011. I see the pieces starting to fall into place now and all they need is a big power bat and a stud starter. I think they have both in the minors now in Alvarez and Lincoln. I honestly do understand fans' frustrations but I've learned to be patient. I started following sports in the 1960's when the Steelers were embarassingly awful, Pitt football was worse, Duquesne was the top college basketball power in the area, Robert Morris was a juco, and the Penguins were a novelty that no one thought would last. I've learned to be patient. I remember swearing off following the Pirates when they traded Rick Rhoden for Doug Drabek and that eventually won a pennant. I remember Bill Madlock being called names that Lasting Milledge hasn't even heard of but he put us over the top. I'm really pleased with what they're doing now.

...continued..letely a waste of opinions. If you want to complain about bad decision making or development I'm with you. But if you're holding out HOPE that they will sign players to win now it will never happen and everyone feed up with the lack of spending on the Major League roster might as well move on. I isn't happening. Get behind what they are trying to do, back the youngin's and enjoy the game.

For those making the comments about the Money. First of all Forbes guesstimating how much the Pirates made simply because they have no access to the books. Those are only opened for prospective buyers of the francise not some public publication. Next point if you are griping about money and how it is spent, let me say one thing, if you waiting for this ownership or another as some of you hope for, no one and I mean no one including Bill Gates if he were to own the team, would spend money on players like the Yankees do. the CC and Texiera deals will never be signed as a Pirate. No big name free agent will come here because it is Pittsburgh. The only money that will ever be spent will be on a mid level free agent once the organization feels it is ready to complete. If it never does than mid level free agents will not be signed and players will be traded for prospects because no amount of money will keep them here when they want to go somewhere to win. So complaining the MONEY is comp...

THE YEAR AFTER McCUTCHEN WAS DRAFTED, BASEBALL AMERICA RATED THE PIRATE FARM SYSTEM IN THE TOP TEN OF ALL OF BASEBALL. SOMEONE MUST HAVE THOUGHT THERE WAS SOME TALENT THERE.

Serg, everyone has to remember the the Nutting family has alway be involved since McClatchy took over the team. they slowy bought each person out one by one until they had control.

Lance, they also make money by lying about a $50M payroll that is dumped by July and parred down to about $30M. Thats not right. The season ticket holders now have to watch this AAA team for the rest of the year. They don't give refunds!!

Serg, that was one of the complaints that the big market teams had, that the small market teams will pocket the money and not put it back into the club.they also get alot of money from t.v and the internet.

Hey Lance, they made $15M because other major league teams had to pay them because their payroll was so frickin small and others went over the threshhold. It would be like Burger King getting a check from McDonalds because their burgers were so freaking disgusting compared to McDonalds...and then bragging about the fact that they made a profit even thought the profit was the check from McDonalds...Embarrassing to say the least!!!

CUTTER DON'T BE A SMART ASS.EVERY RESPECTABLE FINANCIAL NEWS ORGANIZATION THAT REVIEWS SPORTS HAVE MADE THE COMMENT ABOUT HOW MUCH MONEY THE PIRATES HAVE MADE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. ON ESPN RADIO LAST YEAR, THEY EVEN MADE A COMMENT ABOUT HOW MAD THE PIRATE FANS SHOULD BE THAT FORBES MAGAZINE HAD THEM MAKING MORE MONEY THAN THE YANKEES.THE PIRATES FOR 17 YEARS HAVE BEEN BUILDING THE FARM SYSTEM.REMEMBER ARAMIS RAMIREZ, JOSE GUILLEN, LEO NUNEZ,JEFF KEPPINGER,JASON KENDALL, CHRIS YOUNG, JOE BEIMEL AND MANY MANY MORE WHO HAVE MADE A NAME FOR THEMSELFS IN THE BIG LEAGUES. WHEN THESE OWNER ARE SICK OF LOOSING AND MAKING THE LAST PENNY ISN'T THE BOTTOM LINE, THEN THEY WILL MAKE WINNING THE TOP PRIORITY.

lancem, I am amazed that of all the people out there you are the one that the Pirates opened their books to. When I spoke of a solid organization (if that is what you were refering to)I meant a farm system that was filled with good talent and coaches and a MLB team that had good young talent that they had control of for several years.

I agree 100% with you Clemente....... except I would flip flop Sanchez and Milledge and the same with Jones and Doumit {if Jones continues hitting}and I would have Young or Dias in RF. other then that your right.
