Pirates Talk

Pirates Lineup by the end of the season.

How do you see the Pirates lineup playing out by the end of the season? What is everybody's thoughts on first base and shortstop by the end of the season?

I like the idea of moving Doumit to first. It might keep him healthier, and his two replacements have proven they can play, often pretty well.

Morgan, LF; McCutchen, CF; Sanchez, 2B; Doumit, 1b; Pearce, RF; An Laroche 3B; Jaramillo, C; Wilson ss;

I think the best case scenario will include no major changes down the middle. McClouth's trade means the Bucs will allow Sanchez enough ABs to exercise his $8m option for next season...he's worth it. Wilson will take a pay cut for 2010, and he'll hang around the burgh for one more year, until a minor league ss, (possibly one of many prospects picked up in a July Adam Laroche, Craig Monroe and Brandon Moss deal) is ready for the bigs.

My $.02

Vs LHP: 1. McCutchen, CF 2. Morgan, LF 3. LaRoche, 3B 4. Doumit, C 5. Moss, RF 6. Pearce, 1B 7. Ford, 2B 8. Bixler, SS

vs RHP switch Hinske for Pearce.

Actually, I don't think it'll Ford at 2B, but I think Sanchez will be gone and the replacement will likely be Cruz or someone from outside the organization until the offseason comes and they try to do something better up the middle. I don't think Friday will get called up until next year and we'll suffer with Bixler.

That team will make a run at last place, even with the Nats holding a solid lead. Let's hope Bryce Harper gets his GED, goes to JC and is eligible for next year's draft if that's the case.

CF McCutchen 2B Sanchez 3B LaRoach 1B Doumit RF Moss or Monroe C Jarimillo or Diaz SS Wilson PITCHER LF Morgan. Despite the improvement pitching is still the achilles heal with this team. Trading Adam despite what he has said is in the future hopefully we can do as good as the Nate trade. Wilson could be gone also but we can't rely on Bixler we'd have to get a quality SS via trade. Maybe Adam and Jack in a package deal. One things for sure there will be more trades before deadline.

IMHO, Adam LaRoche is gone especially after reading his comments following the McLouth trade. If not traded he will leave as a free agent. Pierce or any of the bench guys, Hinske et al, will fill in at first. Sanchez will be traded for whatever they can get. Probably a lower minors pitcher and an infielder who is younger but about the same potential for level of play.

CF McCutchen LF Morgan 2B Sanchez C Doumit 3B An LaRoche 1B Pearce RF Moss SS Wilson

Sanchez will be traded in the offseason for a major league ready middle infielder and a pitching prospect(A or AA) Wilson and Pirates will compromise after the season with an extension of 2 years(2010 & 2011) for 6.5M + the .6M buy-out Adam LaRoche & Grabow(plus hopefully Snell) will be traded by deadline bringing 2 solid and 2 midrange minor league prospects

OK, I'll be the first one to try. CF McCutchen LF Morgan 2B Andy LaRoche C Ryan Doumit 1B Adam LaRoche RF Brandon Moss 3B Neil Walker SS Jack Wilson

I don't see them trading Jack unless 1) he starts staying healthy and 2) they get a shortstop when they trade Sanchez. I don't see both happening. I see Andy LaRoche moving to second base to break the logjam at third. It can be done - Phil Garner did it - and these guys think they can make anyone a second baseman (see Young, Delwyn). As for Adam LaRoche, I don't see them trading him unless they get bowled over with prospects and I don't see that happening. I think they'll hope to get a "hometown discount" so he can keep playing with his brother. I don't know if Neil Walker is the answer at third, but neither does management so I expect he'll get a try for at least September so they know what to do with him.
